REDLANDSPool Renovations

Island pool enquiries

Updated October 2026

This page exists so we do not have to fudge it anywhere else on the site. Redlands Pool Renovations covers the 12 mainland localities of Redland City. The bay islands are not listed as serviced suburbs, and that is a decision about this particular trade rather than a judgement about the islands.

Why pool renovation is different

Clearing a blocked drain is a one-visit job. A pool renovation is not. A resurface means a drain-down, a chip-out of the old interior, a materials delivery, a crew on site for days, a cure, a refill and usually a return visit or two to finish tiles, coping and fittings. Tiling and coping is the same shape of job. Every one of those movements has to cross the water, and on the islands crossing the water means a booked vehicle barge, because the passenger ferries do not carry work vehicles, trailers, bulky materials or a crew's gear.

Stack that up and a job that is a fortnight on the mainland becomes a logistics exercise with a booked crossing attached to each leg of it, at the operator's current fare, before anyone has mixed anything. Most renovators will not price it, and the ones who will price it properly are expensive for reasons that are entirely legitimate. Publishing the islands as serviced suburbs would collect enquiries that nobody picks up, and a lead nobody takes is worse than no lead.

The crossings, as they actually work

We deliberately publish no fares and no timetables here. Vehicle fares, the resident discount, the state subsidy and a fuel surcharge have all moved recently, and any number we printed would be wrong within months. Check the current position with the operator at sealink.com.au.

The gazetted locality on North Stradbroke Island is Amity. Everyone calls it Amity Point.

What we will do with an island enquiry

Send the form if you want to. We will pass it to the renovators we work with and tell you honestly what comes back. What we will not do is tell you a crew is coming when we do not know that. There is no attendance promise on this page, and there is no attendance promise attached to an island enquiry anywhere else on this site either.

Two things are worth knowing before you send it. Some of the trades who work the islands live on them, and a local operator is very often the better answer for island work than a mainland crew with a barge booking. And a scoped-down job travels far better than a full renovation: an equipment swap, a chlorinator and cell, a leak investigation, or barrier repairs ahead of an inspection are all single-visit work that a mainland contractor may well take, where a full resurface is the one they decline.

Pool safety still applies, island or mainland

The Queensland rules do not change at the water line. A regulated pool has to be on the QBCC Pool Safety Register, and a pool safety certificate is issued only by a QBCC-licensed pool safety inspector after they inspect the barrier, never by this site and never by the trades we refer. It is valid for two years on a non-shared pool and one year on a shared one. A sale needs a current certificate before settlement, or a notice of no pool safety certificate given to the buyer instead. A new lease on a house with its own pool needs the certificate in effect before the tenancy agreement is entered into, and for a shared pool a Form 36 can be lodged instead, which gives the pool owner, usually the body corporate, 90 days. Confirm the current rules with the QBCC before relying on any of it.

Frequently asked questions

Will you tell me no outright?

Not without asking first. We pass the enquiry on and come back with whatever the renovators actually say. If the answer is that nobody will cross for the job, you will get that answer rather than a polite silence.

Is Coochiemudlo Island treated the same as the others?

It is the closest call. The ferry is short and the island is effectively a mainland suburb for a lot of service purposes. It is still not listed as a serviced suburb by default, because a renovation crew with materials needs a crossing booked like anywhere else. If a renovator confirms they will cross, Coochiemudlo is the first island we would add.

Can I get a pool safety inspection on an island?

Yes, and that is a different trade from renovation. Pool safety inspectors are licensed by the QBCC and work independently of the contractors we refer. Search the QBCC register for inspectors who cover your island.

Why does the trust strip say mainland only?

Because it would be dishonest if it said anything else. The badge at the top of this site reads Redlands mainland only, and this page is the reason.
